Police force grows as new police recruits
graduate
July 2006
The North Bergen
Police Department is proud to announce that thirteen
of its recruits have successfully graduated from the
Passaic County Police Academy and have joined the
department as police officers. On Thursday, February
9, 2006, the recruits were given their oath of honor
my Mayor Nicholas J. Sacco during a congratulatory
ceremony within North Bergen Township Hall chambers.
The addition of these recruits brings the total
number of sworn law enforcement officers to 121.
The newly graduated officers
attended a basic recruit training class for 24
weeks. During their time as recruits, they were
exposed to a wide variety of subjects ranging from
New Jersey Criminal Law to Firearms Training. The
new officers successfully passed a series of
examinations on the various lectures they received
throughout their stay at the academy. The academy
also required that the recruits participate in a
vigorous physical training and conditioning program.
In addition, they were put through a battery of
police field problems, which tested their abilities
to think and function as police officers. These were
often hands-on problems that required the recruits
to conduct interviews and take reports, search and
arrest subjects, operate emergency equipment, and
engage in building searches and shooting scenarios.
Congratulations and good luck to officers Santos R.
Benitez, Daniel Brown, David J. Dowd, Diego Estrada,
Marcelo Mancero, Edgar J. Mendez, Brian O'Neill,
Javier Perez, Carmen M. Recinos, Roberto G. Ruiz,
Jorge E. Tronza, Alexander Vazquez, and Michael K.
Vitali.
