DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (D.A.R.E.)
The DARE program gives kids the life
skills they need to avoid involvement with drugs,
gangs, and violence. DARE is a police officer-led
series of classroom lessons that teach children from
K-12 grade. D.A.R.E. New Jersey is the only
authorized D.A.R.E. charitable organization in the
State of New Jersey.
Specially
Trained Cops Assigned D.A.R.E. Classroom "Beats"
The D.A.R.E. curriculum is designed to be taught by
police officers whose training and experience gave
them the background needed to answer the
sophisticated questions often posed by young
students about drugs and crime. Prior to entering
the D.A.R.E. program, officers undergo 80 hours of
special training in areas such as child development,
classroom management, teaching techniques, and
communication skills. 40 hours of additional
training are provided to D.A.R.E. instructors to
prepare them to teach the high school curriculum.
Mission Statement
- D.A.R.E. New Jersey in collaboration with law
enforcement, schools, parents, community and
governmental agencies, will provide premier
leadership, guidance, direction and program
materials to D.A.R.E. Officers, parents and
educators in delivering a comprehensive drug and
violence prevention curriculum and supportive
programs to the State's youth and communities.
Vision Statement -
D.A.R.E. will become the preeminent youth drug and
violence prevention influence through its continuing
educational programs and a strong collaboration with
schools, parents, law enforcement, community and
government agencies.
